WHAT IF they had met as teens during a summit of leaders from each terra? I imagined that Starling would have come from a privileged background, and her father, a nobleman, would host this gathering at his summer home.

Repton's sire would select him as the best example of Bogaton's potential future leaders, and the adolescent was forced to go despite his strong objection. Of course, they would be obligated to mingle with the children of the VVIPs, and they would immediately dislike each other the moment they meet.

I also imagined that Starling underwent a huge change within the next few years - either through the murder of her parents, or she would run away from that stiff life, and then she would sign up for the Interceptors (she would have a head start with her acrobatic skills, as her parents would drill gymnastics, dancing and all things arts and culture into her from a very young age).

I understand that Repton has mentioned that the reptiles do live a very long life, thus implying that he may be decades older than Starling, but this was a fun concept to run with :b
